Yes it's going to be totaled

March 27th, 2017 at 02:57 pm

My minivan is too old and compromised to be fixed. It's off to the salvage yard later. Deployment of all drivers side airbags and the fact that I managed to bend both axles on impact with concrete median were the definitive factors contributing to its demise.

The other driver admitted fault. But begged and carried on asking us not to go to court because she can't afford the ticket. The state trooper told us he thought she shouldn't be driving. I'm still unhealthily hostile toward this woman because we could have been seriously injured or worse.

I'm now afraid to drive at all. I'm sore but finally head-ache free. Air bag sort of gave me a black eye. But my daughter is fine and in Cancun having a good time.

I sure hope this ends up with her license being taken away. Glad you are feeling a little better.

I'm so glad you both weren't seriously hurt and the car issue will be resolved. It can be very scary to drive again after an accident like that and it will take time to get over it.

    Was the other driver uninsured?

  4. Laura Says:

She's insured. By Falcon. Not sure anyone has ever heard of that. State Farm will go after them on my behalf.

I hate it when people try to get you to not report a big accident. With a small fender bender, like a parking lot accident, I can see it, but not when it totals your car. All she was thinking about was herself. Not the damages she did, not the injuries she caused, but only how it was going to affect her.

Why did the police officer say she shouldn't have been driving?

  7. Laura Says:

That was his comment to my husband. Apparently the trooper didn't smell alcohol and her pupils weren't dilated. She was oldish and flaky. That's when the trooper said she was sweet. It shouldn't be driving. Again, I'm still feeling unhealthy anger at her carelessness and general "please don't give me a ticket cause I can't afford it" repeated shpiel.

Does the police report ascribe 'fault?' If she is not ticketed, does that provide an opportunity to her insurer to suggest she was not 100% responsible for the resultant crash? The crash resulted in deployment of air bag vehicle with a move imminent?

If she is older, she may be using 'ticketing' to deflect the possibility/probabily of losing her license given other demerits. [sorry CNN has me looking for back stories.

    arrgh...sentences compressed...
trying to say it takes time, effort and energy to find a suitable replacement vehicle. The deployment of airbags resulted in headaches and blackinjured eye.

Sorry to hear and glad you are okay.
