Alas, I think I've got it ...

December 22nd, 2014 at 03:53 pm

we had our flu shots back in October, but I've got the aches and pains, a raw throat, and a sinus headache. And it I have a million things to do today.

It is one daughter's birthday and I'd like to pull something together for a little celebration. And I've got to take care of delivering the signed paperwork to the council office for the cub scout charter.

Oh, I had hoped this wouldn't happen ... and I might of jinxed myself ... no on to cry to cause my mom is still down ...

Flu shots are more dangerous than they are worth. I would never agree to take one.

All the companies push them to make money, and they give people false hope. You are just as likely to catch the flu even if you have the shot. As you have found out.

    Hope you recover quickly!

You might want to get to the doctor and get Tamiflu. Hope you recovery quickly.

There is an offshoot of one of the strains going around that isn't covered in the flu shot. I sure hope you rest and take it easy. Going out with the virus only infects more people. All the things you mentioned can wait...even your daughter's birthday celebration.

Unfortunately with the shot having to be created almost a year before the season starts it is hard to choose the appropriate strains to protect against. This year the shot is only about 40% effective because of the rise of other strains. And getting the shot does not mean you won't get one of the strains it is protecting against it but means that it may not hit you with full strength if you do indeed get sick. and 40% is better than nothing.

I am so sorry you are sick especially with all the work and events happening the next few weeks. If you think it is the flu go see the doctor to get Tamiflu to try and lesson your symptoms and the length of time you are sick.

I hope you and your mom are felling better soon.

I had an a-ha moment. I have a driving daughter. So she went and picked up the signed paperwork for the scout council. And the kids have done a Lysol wipe surge - hitting all surfaces. The engine light came on in the car and I think it has something to do with the gasoline cap. I'm not sure, but that sounds vaguely familiar from last year. OK, going to try and get some sleep. Thank you for the supportive comments. Smile

Strep throat has been going around here. I agree with the others it might be something else but a flu shot is good to get its is a preventative and as you take them over the years you are building up your immune system for different types. The girls and I get one every year and it is covered under our insurance 100%. Many people die of the flu each year thank goodness we have vaccines. Maybe its just the crud but I hope you start to feel better with Christmas right around the corner! Get some rest.

CDC said the flu shot is ineffective this year. Someone also recently issued a statement saying that it actually weakens your immunity against the flu so that if you don't get it every year after starting it, you'll be worse off. Not sure I buy that, or if that is just a way for them to boost sales.

Personally I'm allergic to something in the flu shots. I always got hives that day and sick with the flu within 24 hours of taking it. I finally quit it about five or six years ago. I get sick either way. Rather not have the hives and bad reaction.

I took my daughter to the Dr today. She had the flu shot back in August and her diagnosis today was she has the flu. Her Dr told me that there were two strands of the flu that were left out of this years shot and that is where the increase is in those that have had the shot. I have to wait for her to be fever free for over 24hrs for her to be around others. Hopefully this will happen before Christmas since today is day 3 that she hasn't been feeling well.
