Learn your geography! Or dreams up in smoke.

May 14th, 2014 at 01:20 pm

In doing a search of affordable vacation homes close to Chicago, I cam across this listing. And I fell in love with it. In all of its oddness and quirkiness.

The price was right. The location was right. Until I determined that it was actually in Bridgeport and NOT Bridgeman where we are initially starting to look.

So with that, proximity to home (almost 5 hours) it is off the list. Oh well, I *did* like it.

And I am in the process of a major declutter in the kitchen and coat closet that I will finish up today.

When are you looking to purchase a vacation home? Good luck with the decluttering. I think I have done all I can for our home. I have looked in pretty much every nook and cranny I can think of! Although one daughter has a hoard of stuff, but just isn't ready or motivated to let go.

We are probably at least 15 months away from a purchase, but I love to look. We are going to be downsizing from 2300 square feet to 1400 square feet (going into my brother's house after he marries and moves next summer). We will own that outright and have always wanted a place in the country/rural where there is room to roam and be outdoors. This is sort of like the "fun" side of coming through our transition time which obviously doesn't include vacation home purchases in our present state. Smile We are definitely rethinking what we have/need/want.

Ah, makes more sense to me now that I know you are moving to your brother's place. Good plan! Less clutter sells a home faster, too. Smile

It is surprising to me how much stuff I really actually have. And I am keeping a small set of pots/some corningware for my eventual summer place. YIKES! I am going to pop over and seek some motivation from *my organized friend*! Smile

Wow! The house has good bones, but the wallpaper and carpeting is insane! Smile

@CB, I know! I love the wackiness of the décor- it really reminds me of a bed and breakfast we stayed in at the Cotswold years ago. I will admit to liking the wallpaper/carpeting combo! Just points to my whackiness, I suppose!

Yes, I can see how it might be charming with the right English cozy furniture and accessories!
